Well, we have been encouraged to document our journey by Elizabeth at CCC. As we discussed, with her and our neighbors, we are planning to 'Etch-A-Sketch' our life. Take everything we have done for 30 years in Colorado, turn it upside down and shake.

Step #1, sell our house. That may take some time. It could take months, or years, but we will be here until it happens. With such an unknown, we are not planning anything beyond that. We have some ideas on day 1 post-sale, what to do with our stuff, and where we want to live. That said, we have no specific plans.

Why are we doing this? Let me list some of them out:

  • We can
    • The timing is right.
    • We will reach retirement age in the next 5-10 years.
    • We have no obligations here that preclude a change
    • With no job ties in Colorado, where we live doesn't matter
  • YOLO
  • High altitude and cold are becoming more challenging
    • My fall from a ladder a few years ago has created a lack of desire/inability to do what I used to do in Colorado. It isn't catastrophic but a gentler area will help.

We will be here until it sells. This is our 5th or 6th house selling experience so we know that it is uncertain. Until then, we have a great house, great neighbors, great club, and a beautiful city. If a house sale takes a long time, we are ok with it.

Areas we are considering are in the NW Arkansas area (Fayetteville, Rogers, Bentonville. No particular reason other than we like what we saw. No ties there so a clean Etch-A-Sketch for the future.

When the house sells, we plan on driving over Raton Pass and stopping in Raton for a pee break. We can then decide to drive to Santa Fe or head East toward Dallas. Pretty much that is our complete plan right now. If Santa Fe, we will stay a few days and enjoy some NM culture then decide to drive south or east.
